UEMS has been actively working on safe water, improved sanitation and hygiene (WASH). UEMS has successfully implemented several WASH related projects with fund support from INGOs as well as the government which have been presented in the table under Track Records of the Projects Undertaken, Section 4. Of many, recently, UEMS successfully completed the project “Community-Managed Water Treatment and Distribution Systems in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal”. The projects (Phase I and Phase II) have increased access to safe drinking water at an affordable price in nine project communities. The project is the demonstration of community-managed water treatment, bottling and distribution system for urban poor communities in Kathmandu Valley. Local capacity building and sustainable operation of the system with business model approach will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 with improving access to safe drinking water
